Health
The health system in Denmark is excellent. Doctors' fees are paid in cash and are approximately Dkk120-350. No vaccinations are required for travel to Denmark.
Health care: Pharmacies (Apotek) are open 0900-1730 Monday to Friday and until 1300 on Saturday. Steno Apotek (6c Vesterbrogade; tel: 33 14 82 66) is open 24 hours. The main hospitals provide day and night treatment: Bispebjerg, Bispebjerg Bakke 23 (tel: 35 31 35 31), and Frederiksberg, Nordre Fasanvej 57 (tel: 35 38 02 51).
Emergencies: The number for an ambulance is 112. Doctors are available on call (0800-1600 Monday to Friday tel: 33 15 46 00 or 32 84 00 41 at other times). Emergency dental treatment is available from Tandlægevagten, Oslo Plads 14 (tel: 35 38 02 51), 2000-2130 daily and 1000-1200 Saturday and Sunday.
Insurance: In the event of sudden illness or worsening of existing chronic disease, foreign visitors are entitled to free treatment in Danish state hospitals and casualty wards. However, health insurance is advised for all visitors. Refunds for payment of treatment and medication by the state health service are available on production of a Form E111, available free to nationals of the 15 EU member states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Private medical treatment is not covered. Applications for refunds should be made before leaving Denmark or immediately on arrival in the home country.
