Walking Tours
Two-hour guided walks in English to various parts of the Old City are offered by Wonderful Copenhangen Tourist Information (tel: (32) 971 440; website: www.visitcopenhagen.dk). These depart from Bernstorffsgade, Monday to Saturday at 1100 (1 May to 30 September) and cost Dkk100.

Guided tours of Christiania, the ‘Free City of Copenhagen’ (tel: (32) 579 670; website: www.christiania.org), depart from the main gate, at 1500 Saturday and Sunday only. The tour is guided by a resident of the commune, takes approximately one-and-a-half hours and costs Dkk30.

Bus Tours
Copenhagen Excursions (tel: (32) 540 606; fax: (32) 574 905; e-mail: info@cex.dk; website: www.cex.dk) organises a number of tours around the city, with the ‘Grand Tour’ taking in all the major highlights, including the Royal Palace and Tivoli gardens. All tours depart from the City Hall Square (Rådhuspladsen), next to the Palace Hotel, and take from one and a half to seven hours, costing up to Dkk180 for the Grand Tour (concessions available). The company also operates a hop-on hop-off bus service with mutli-lingual commentary, costing Dkk100 or Dkk125 for a 48-hour ticket. From April to October, there are daily departures from City Hall Square (Rådhuspladsen) every half an hour 0930-1700.

Boat Tours
Boat tours through the harbour and canal networks around Christianshavn and Slotsholmen explain the importance of water in the life and history of the city. The Canal Tours (tel: (33) 919 876; website: www.canal-tours.dk) Waterbus hop on-hop off tour, without guides, departs daily every half hour 1015-1645 (September to May) 1015-1745 (June-August) from Den Lille Havfrue (The Little Mermaid), in Nyhavn. The service costs Dkk30 (concessions available) and the entire duration is 90 minutes, including a visit at Trekroner Fort (otherwise 60 minutes).

Other Canal Tours boats depart daily from Nyhavn and Gammel Strand every half hour 1000-1700 from April to October, for 50-minute guided tours of the harbour and canals, costing Dkk50 (concessions available). Or, for a more relaxed approach, visitors can try the dinner cruise (June-August) from Nyhavn, taken on board an elegant restaurant boat, offering a two-course menu and coffee during a two-hour cruise through maritime Copenhagen, passing historic sights and along canals. This cruise costs Dkk298 (including dinner) and wine and brandy are included for an extra Dkk149.

Netto Boats (tel: (32) 544 102; website: www.netto-baadene.dk) offers a one-hour guided tour of the harbour and canals. There are daily departures (two to five per hour) from outside Holmens Church, opposite the Old Stock Exchange, 1000-1700, from March to October. The tour costs Dkk20 (concessions available).

Bike Tours
City Safari (tel: (33) 239 490; website: www.citysafari.dk) offers a number of themed tours on bikes, taking from two and a half to four and a half hours. Tour options include the ‘Historical Copenhagen’ tour, departing 1030 and 1330 daily (June-August) and costing Dkk150, or ‘History of Carlsberg’ tours, Wednesday and Sunday at 1030 (May-September) for Dkk350. Fans of Hans Christian Anderson can bike to the relevant sites on Saturday 1030 (May-September) for Dkk350. There are also tours on Danish design, 1030 on Friday and Saturday (May-September), costing Dkk350, or the city’s nightlife on the ‘Copenhagen by Night’ tour, at 2000, Thursday-Saturday (May-September) for Dkk250. All tours start from the Danish Centre for Architecture, in the Gammel Dok Storehouse, Christianshavn (credit cards are not accepted).

Other Tours
Kayak Sightseeing (tel: (40) 504 006; website: www.kajakole.dk) offers guided tours with professional instructors, which depart from Gammel Strand and last from 90 minutes to three hours, costing between Dkk165 and Dkk195.
